About the event
"Rumbling, the Grass Grows Wildly" describes not only the intensity of Li Linlin's ongoing artistic labor but also the immense volume of information and emotion she aims to express through her works. It reflects the unique character of contemporary China—chaotic and wild yet brimming with potent vitality. The title itself evokes the tone of a children's rhyme, capturing notions of construction, caution, the imminent arrival of a storm, wilderness vitality, and the layered reality of Li Linlin's personal surroundings. From the skyscrapers of Wangjing district to the rural daily life around her studio, each space is saturated with complex information. People persevere despite feeling uneasy in this overwhelming urban environment—a sentiment intertwined with chaos, sorrow, poetry, and even cruelty.
"STILL LIFE" is derived from the English translation of Jia Zhangke's film "Still Life" (Sanxia Haoren), signifying a stark contrast with the exhibition's Chinese title. It symbolizes the blend of magical…
