Cai Canhuang | One Person's Public Scene

Opening on August 19 at Hall 2 of the Blue Roof Museum of Art in Chengdu, Cai Canhuang: A One-Person Public Arena presents over 30 recent works and art projects by artist Cai Canhuang. The exhibition offers a panoramic view of his creative journey across large-scale public art and intimate studio works. It highlights his long-standing focus on the concept of “publicness”—from physical public spaces to internalized emotional landscapes. By navigating both grand spectacles and personal reflections, the show illustrates two contrasting but intertwined understandings of the public realm, especially how personal expression can engage with public dialogue.

In July 2023, Cai served as the chief designer of the fireworks displays for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 31st Summer World University Games in Chengdu.
